Are You Considering
Adopting?
My philosophy of adoption is that you are entitled to the adoption you want, not the
adoption someone else thinks you should have - no two adoptions are exactly alike, because no two people are exactly alike.
Whether you are an adopting parent building a family or a birth parent making a loving decision for your child, it is my job
to help you come to an understanding of the adoption situation with which you will feel most comfortable and to help to create
that situation for you, with experience, ethics and aloha.
Whatever your situation, I have probably talked with and worked with people just like you. Many people I speak
with have thought about adoption, but heard that it was too costly, or too difficult, or that "the parents always
change their minds". Others
have had a bad experience with an adoption attempt, with another attorney, or with an adoption facilitator or agency, and
are reluctant to try again. I offer you a different approach. From my years in this field, I know the adoption experience
can be positive and pleasant, reasonable in time and in cost, and tailored to your needs. It is my goal to complete
every adoption having helped to make not just a new family, but new friends as well. What is different about my office, and
why should you consider working with me?
I care - I care about you, and about listening to
you and working with you to help achieve the adoption you want. I have been practicing law for over thirty
years, and have limited my practice to adoptions since 1984. I have no preconceived notions about how an adoption ought
to be, so long as we comply with the law, and so long as everyone involved is treated with courtesy, respect and patience.
Open or closed, contact
or no contact, newborn or toddler, mixed race, same race, another race - all these are your decisions,
not mine. I will of course use my experience to help you to evaluate your options to decide what works best for you, but you
are in charge.
One
hallmark of my office is personal service, and my fees are structured accordingly. I don't charge by the hour, as I
don't want people to hold off on calling me for fear the clock is running - it isn't. Adoption can be emotional, and
sometimes you need an advocate in your corner. I believe you should be able to reach that advocate at almost any
time without additional charge. I also believe that when people put their faith in me, they are entitled to my attention -
calls and emails are returned promptly, usually within 24 hours.
I
welcome your questions, and I look forward to working with you as you embark on your journey to a successful adoption!
Are You Considering Making An Adoption Plan for Your Child?
If you are considering the placement of your child for adoption and have questions about what to expect, I urge
you to call and talk. There is no charge to you and no obligation. You need to be aware of your options, and I'd be happy
to explore these with you and to answer any questions you may have. I am also available to speak with birth fathers, grandparents
or others, to help them to understand independent adoption and what to expect. This can be a difficult time for all parties
involved, and I'd like to make it easier.
Deciding
to place a child for adoption is not a decision that anyone reaches lightly, and I urge you to be aware of your rights, your
options, and what avenues are available to you. For example, perhaps you would like to relocate, temporarily, for the
balance of your pregnancy and the birth of your child. Or, it may be that you would like counseling to help with your decision.
You may not yet know whether you want to meet and choose the adoptive family for your child, or perhaps you think you would
like an anonymous adoption, which is available in some states. You may have questions about what kinds of contact you can
request after the child is placed with the adoptive family. All of these questions and dozens of others will occur to you,
and you are entitled to have them answered. Please give us a call, and we'll take whatever time you need to explore the
situation. There is no cost or obligation to you. If you have questions about how or if I can be of service to
you, please contact me, by telephone or e-mail.
For all those considering
adoption, from either side of the equation, thank you for reading, and please call or write for more information. Aloha,
Linda E. F. Lach Attorney at Law
